70.3 Chattanooga – the spectators perspective

So, about a year ago my husband was convinced to do another 70.3 this time in Chattanooga. While at this point I have no desire to do a 70.3 I loved the idea of seeing a new place! They could race and I could enjoy my surroundings!

I made Lauren and Jon pose for lots of photos!

Jon and I drove up from Tampa on Friday AM. We stayed at a host hotel that was about a mile from the transition/expo area of the event. The Holiday Inn Express Downtown Chattanooga was very nice!

Thanks to the close proximity to Downtown we were pretty much able to walk everywhere! We ate at some of the most delicious places! It started on Friday when we arrived by walking to find the local bakery!

Jon and Lauren went for HUGE cupcakes. I however went for a small cannoli and some cake balls! I have a love for cake balls!!

So yummy!!

I’m pretty sure that I pretty much ate my way thought Chattanooga! On Saturday, I sherpa’ed their open water swim practice and then onto packet pickup!

Tennessee River endless pool!

Expo fun!

After wandering around and watching Lauren spend lots of her hard earned money at the expo and merch tent we started exploring! It began with lunch at The Maple Street Biscuit Company it was scrumptious! Make sure you stop there if you happen upon one of their locations.

Then it was on down the street to check out the Moon Pie General Store! It was super cool and I bought lots of gifts and Moon Pies. Apparently, Moon Pies are made in Chattanooga!

We also made sure to stop by the actual Chattanooga Choo-Choo! It was such a cool old hotel and train!

OHH there was also a race! I mean, I didn’t do the race but I was an excellent sherpa!

Early morning shenanigans

If I were ever to do a 70.3 I’d totally want the downstream awesomeness that they had! Kristin was my cheer buddy and we had an awesome time!

Obligatory cheer selfie

Why, yes, that is a shark on her head! Made it easy for all our folks to spot her! We dropped them off, dropped the gear off at the car, and waited for the swim to finish. Once they were all out on the bike we went to find coffee and breakfast! We also tracked down the Starbucks Tennessee mug!

Mugs acquired this trip

We then grabbed lunch at Puckett’s BBQ which was SO GOOD! Look, I’m married to a vegetarian, it is nice to go to a quality BBQ! It was during this lunch that I slacked on my sherpa duties. The IM tracker was down and my kids decided to go SUPER fast and get back in 30 minutes earlier than I expected! We finished up quickly and made it out to see them at mile 6.9/12.5.

yes, we had cheer beer!

hubby finishing up!

So, the hubs LOVED this race. He says he would never want to do the full 140.6 there but the 70.3 he really enjoyed. The city of Chattanooga was absolutely lovely! It was quaint enough to be able to walk around and enjoy everything it had to offer. However, it wasn’t small enough to feel isolated! If you are into racing 70.3’s I would say this is one you definitely want to do! Great for spectators and racers alike! Check everything out, eat all the food, and enjoy everything this Southern town has to offer!

Tuesday Travels

Yes, I’ve been a little MIA lately. There is just so much going on between my running, work, and all of our home projects. However, I figured I need to get back to it. What better way than to share my latest work trip – LAS VEGAS.

I’d like to say it was super exciting cause I’d never been to Vegas, or Nevada, for that matter.

We start with the early morning flight. Ok not super early, 7:30am, but I was landing in Vegas at 10:30am so early by Vegas standards.

The Hoover Dam

Super glad I looked out the window as we came in. I’ve never seen the Hoover Dam before so it was awesome to catch it from the air.

Desert and Mountains!

I’ve also never seen a desert before so I just LOVED checking it out for a while from the air.

I joked because based on our agenda for the conference I was really only going to get to see the airport. So, just in case

I played a quick slot when I landed. My dad asked me to play a dollar for him so I did! No, I didn’t win anything.

Please come to Tampa!!!

When I turned a corner I ran right into a Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf and freaked! It is the BEST coffee and I never get to have it! I wish I could have grabbed a second, so delish!

I caught an Uber to the hotel and then spent the day at the conference. Honestly, I crashed at 9pm cause it was midnight my time and I’d been up since 5am! I’ve never really experienced jet lag but I sure did this time. I woke up at 3am WIDE AWAKE! Thankfully, my roommate was also from Florida and having the same issue. So, at 4am we got up and went to the gym, cause why not!

After a full day of activities. We went to check out the Bellagio fountains. It was 11pm but I figured why not, it’s Vegas!

Bellagio Fountains

We also walked around a little bit and went into Caesar’s Palace. Which, FYI, the shops close at 11pm! However, the lights are all on and things were pretty to look at!

I got to head home the next day at 3:30pm Vegas time. I was grateful because we had an awesome pilot on the way home. He made sure to let us know that we were over the Grand Canyon. I didn’t snap and photos but it was absolutely beautiful! Something I really want to see in person!

I’m excited to get to mark this as a place I’ve visited! I’ve never been a big traveler, but I’m enjoying seeing more sights as I get older! Thanks for stopping by!

5 races in 6 weeks

So – I love technology! I set this to post last Friday while I was away and sadly it did not post! So my Friday Five is now a Tuesday Travel! Enjoy!!

I have been traveling a CRAZY amount over the last few weeks. Anyone who says “I wish I could travel more for work” has probably never done it. With that in mind joining this Friday Five with You signed up for what, Eat Pray Run DC, and Mar on the Run was a “pick your own topic” week! I loved this one cause I had the perfect topic! My 5 races in 6 weeks. No I didn’t race. If you follow me on here (or even more fun over at my instagram page…follow me!) then you know that I work for Iron Girl and have been traveling across the US with the races. So with that in mind here is a little coverage!

  1. Iron Girl Syracuse:

This race by far had the most amazing morning view. The picture just can not do the sunrise justice. I even saw women leaving transition just to take in the beauty that was the sunrise!

Gorgeous sunrise over the lake

I think, so far, this was my favorite venue. This is where I realized that this job and this place is exactly where I’m supposed to be! It was also the most fun! From my Q&A sessions to sitting out in the middle of the water for the swim start! Just so much fun!!

2. Iron Girl Pleasant Prairie

OK, to start this off, if you are in the great state of Wisconsin you MUST have cheese curds. I mean they are pretty much just bite sized mozzarella sticks but they are just delicious! Trust me on this one!

This was also an excellent event! The weather was great but it isn’t the most scenic of venues. However, we had a great time exploring the Kenosha food scene and I’m super sad we couldn’t find time to visit the Cheese Castle. We did go to the Brat Stop which was pretty awesome!!

3. Iron Girl Columbia

ok kids, this race holds a special place in my heart. This was my first ever triathlon and to be able to come full circle was just amazing. My triathlon journey started with Iron Girl Columbia and the Ulman Cancer Fund and now I was on the other side!

I also got to see my family and friends on this trip. I also got to cheer on Megan and the other MMTCers at the race. All in all I love Baltimore and I love this race! I highly recommend it!!

4. Iron Girl Seattle

This race was a HUGE deal for me. Mainly because I had never been to the West Coast, hell, I’d never been further than Tennessee. So getting to see real mountains, new places, and new friends all while doing what I love!! Also, I got the opportunity to meet my Sweat Pink sister Carleeh, you should totally check out here page – here

some Seattle fun

some Seattle fun

This is an interesting race because in the crazy mountainous region that is Seattle we somehow have a FLAT course. So if you happen to be visiting the Pacific Northwest next August you should be sure to check this race out!!

5. Iron Girl Sandy Hook

Sandy Hook is actually this weekend. I’m writing this post in advance because when this posts I will be in the Garden State prepping for all the women for their race on Sunday! If you happen to see this and are doing the race please come up and say “hi” and always remember to be kind to your race staff! We have been up since 3 am to give you an amazing experience and we are doing our best!! If I don’t see you and you are racing….good luck and have fun!!

When we last left our intrepid hero she was setting off to become a jet-setter. Becoming an avid flyer was something she had never been and never thought she would be!

Na, in all honesty, the hard part now is that I think I should be scared of things but I’m not. My system is a little confused about this whole flying thing. To be totally honest though, I’m all kinds of tired. I have been in 7 different states in the last 3 weeks, FL, MD, WV, PA, IL, WI,NY. This Thursday I leave yet again for the great city of Seattle. I am very thankful that it is my last trip this month and I get a few weekends back until I jet off to NJ.

I’ll have more details about my whole travel experience hopefully next week! For now I’ll leave you with the most beautiful picture I’ve taken so far in Syracuse, NY.
